The exhibition presents 180 works of the French artist, including paintings, drawings, prints and gouache découpées that studies the entire artistic production of his life: from his first works to the invention of the gouaches découpées. The production of Matisse will be analyzed in relation to the work of Michelangelo, the great Italian artist of the sixteenth century. In particular two of the most important works by Matisse, like the painting entitled Pianist and draughts’ players and the gouache découpée named Veneri will be compared with an original drawing by Michelangelo showing two Venus.

The exhibition is curated  by Claudia Beltramo Ceppi and assisted by a scientific committee composed of some leading scholars of Matisse.

Alberto Torsello in collaboration with Maurizio Bernardelli Curuz, artistic director of the Museum of Brescia.

Fabbian and the architect Torsello gained a strong experience in the lighting of important exhibitions, sometimes together, for example in Inca. Origin and Mysteries of gold Civilization, or alone: Fabbian lighted The Secret of the Forbidden City in Treviso while Torsello experienced the exhibitions on  Canaletto and Cima da Conegliano. On the occasion of the Matisse exhibition, they have studied a new product: a museum projector that can satisfy the need for permanent structures such as museums, galleries and picture galleries of a balanced and precise lighting project that can make possible a correct view of the exhibits.

Ombra, unusual for the decorative tradition of Fabbian, is a unique product for his fusion of design research and innovation in LED technology. The project is perfectly suitable for demanding museum and retail applications that require the use of high-performance and low power consumption LEDs, a perfect color and object’s illumination, pointing flexibility beam and accessories able to customize your lighting.

The museum projector Ombra embodies all these characteristics. Through the use of the high color performance LED, Ombra doesn’t offset the color of the illuminated works, allows maximum flexibility with its three-axis pointing to independent points and the “laser pointer”. In addition, compared with a traditional lighting system, the use of LEDs allows the cancellation of IR and UV radiation harmful to the works, the possibility to choose the color temperature, a decrease in heat load that reduce problems with air conditioning room, a drastic reduction in lamps’ maintenance due to their long life and cut in energy consumption and thus, indirectly, in the production of CO2.

Thanks to the technological quality of Ombra, Fabbian presents to the market a museum projector studied and designed specifically to this sector. The lighting of the Matisse exhibition is the perfect challenge for this new product.

Sia Guest 2010 (20-23 novembre, Rimini)

Per il terzo anno consecutivo Fabbian parteciperà alla 60° edizione del Salone Internazionale dell’accoglienza, illuminando una parte del Pop Up Resort (progetto allestimento generale:  Studio Gritti Rollo):  la zona Congressi progettata internamente da Marco Piva.

Pendant, table, floor, wall and ceiling lighting fixtures for indoor installations. Satin-finish white blown glass diffusers available in different sizes. White painted metal or polyester metal structure, reinforced with fibreglass. Electrification on mains voltage for incandescent, halogen or fluorescent bulbs.

F06 No More – design Pio&Tito Toso

Wall lighting fixtures for indoor installation. The die-cast aluminium structure is available in white painted or matt chrome finishing. Only for this latter version, the front panel is available with three different kinds of wood colour: light, medium and dark. The light shielding panel can be positioned at 0°-30°-60°-90°. The light source is masked by a white polymethylmethacrylate frame which let a more uniform light diffusion. Electrification on mains voltage for fluorescent bulbs.

F05 Angle – Pamio Design

Floor lighting fixtures for indoor installation. Structural carbon structure, shiny white or black painted. Both versions have a ballasted base made of steel, matt black painted. In the swinging round-shaped head a ring with 180 high-efficiency micro LEDs finds place. LEDs generate a luminous flux higher than 1000 lumen with a colour temperature of 3000°K. The absorbed electrical power is lower than 20W.

Per l’occasione Fabbian sarà protagonista alla “Cantina di Miss Italia”, spazio lounge all’interno del Centro Congressi di Salsomaggiore Terme in cui si ritroveranno i volti noti al pubblico che nei giorni della manifestazione affolleranno la cittadina dell’appenino parmense.

Fabbian partecipa all’evento illuminando questo spazio con le piantane della coleezione Class, Vela, Beluga Alu e Twirl.

La Cantina di Miss Italia sarà un ambiente dove gli ospiti della manifestazione – artisti, attori, giornalisti, fotografi e, naturalmente, le miss – potranno rilassarsi e degustare un calice di buon vino accompagnato da selezionati prodotti tipici. La Cantina funzionerà infatti come un vero e proprio wine bar, aperto dalla mattina fino a tarda sera per offrire un’ampia scelta fra le produzioni enologiche ed enogastronomiche italiane.

Fabbian was contacted to restore the lighting fixtures, an operation performed by a skilled restorer under the supervision of the Department of Architectural Assets of Trento.

Besides this, the company also designed supplementary lighting using some of its catalogue products: Ali Led and halide stand, special-design Style wall lights, Orbis with halide lamps and Leds.

With this project, Fabbian once again showed great flexibility and business skill.

THE LIGHTS

62 chandeliers were involved, light fixtures of different periods and types, which can be split into the following categories:

- “Maria Theresa Style” chandeliers, the most attractive and largest (diameter 100-120 cm), from Bohemia and dating back to the 19^th century. These, like most of the castle’s chandeliers, were initially used as candle-holders and then, in 1920-1930 they were electrified and placed in the representation hall.

- “Murano Style” chandeliers (2 specimens), the most decorative thanks to flower and natural glass elements, of Venetian design.

- “Strass baskets”, chandeliers with Bohemia crystal glass chains, probably made between the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries and located in the master bedrooms.

- Solid-brass casting chandeliers, located in the playrooms.

- Wrought-iron chandelier (1 specimen)

- 19^th- century “Empire Style” chandeliers made in Germany.

- 19^th-century lanterns similar to those located under church arches, initially oil or candle lit and then electrified, used for secondary and service areas.

- “Window lanterns”, these too electrified in the early 20^th century.

- Brass wall lights

- Chandeliers with metal and blown-glass structure, of more recent design (1930-40).

THE MATERIALS

The materials involved were therefore natural brass, gilded brass, iron and crystal glass with structures in tin-plated iron, most made in Bohemia and excellently finished.

THE RESTORATION

All the chandeliers were dismantled into their individual parts. The glass was cleaned and degreased using a specific surface-active agent. The metals were brushed, cleaned and suitably protected.

The chandeliers were electrically restored and wired to standard, while maintaining the original light-holders.

Finally, the chandeliers were re-assembled, according to the photographic campaign carried out initially for each individual piece, and then tested in terms of electrical operation.

TESTS

After restoration, heat tests were performed on all the restored pieces.

Fabbian lighting reveals its more technical side, designing a sort of bar code on the natural wood colour false ceiling in sound-dampening material: this is the Zen Black system involving alternate direction light blocks with QR111 halogen and metal iodide light sources. The individual modules of the Zen collection, total-recessed version with fluorescent lights, are fitted inside the white plasterboard at regular intervals. The only suspension light on the first floor is Crio, in the embossed white version, enhanced by dropping on the corner room table, while the wall is washed by the recessed LEDs of the Cricket collection. Moving down to the lower floor, the stairs are stained with light from the halogen lamps fitted on the Tube collection, a model also used to provide uniformity in the corridor introducing into the offices: the comfortable desks are lit by elegant Factory suspension lights which, in the gloss white version, are consistent with the predominant colour of the entire basement; furthermore, thanks to double emission, they also allow exploiting the light reflected off the ceiling. On the false ceiling, again made of noise-dampening material, but finished in white, the fluorescent Zen system is again concealed. This system also lights the screening room. To end with, different Fabbian floor-lamp models such as Beluga Alu, Ali and Elle, provide accent lighting to most of the room corners.

Strong commitment on the part of Fabbian which lit up 7 areas of major interior and architectural design companies, showing the top quality and trendiness of the installed products. First and foremost the Tile project, which thanks to its versatility made the lounge area on the top floor of the Beluga Alu building unique and embellished all the common paths. The following collections were used: Beluga Colour, Cricket, Twirl, Leto, Domina, Dono,Toroidale, Riccio, Faretti, Classici, Zen, Elle, Lady, Plano, Book and Diamond

Even in the absence of Euroluce, Fabbian underscored its presence at the major Off-Show event of the Milan design week.

The new collections are:

F01 Duct

Designed by the architect Mary Pavin, DUCT is a ceiling lighting fixture for indoor installation. It’s electrified for 2 adjustable LEDs 3×3W 10° and it has a colour temperature  of 3000° K, or with RGB LEDs  3×1W 10° with remote ballast and driver. It has an aluminium structure with sharp edges; white satin or matt black or polished chromium painted.

F03 Pulse

Pendant lighting fixture designed by Alberto Saggia and Valerio Sommella. It consists of an extra clear tempered glass sheet with a thickness of 8 mm hold by four adjustable stainless steel cables. Its electrical circuit runs on the top of the glass through a silk-screen printing. It’s available in two different dimensions:  mm 1100 x 300 and mm 1100 x 500. In the smaller version 24×1,5W LEDs  are installed while in the bigger one there are 36×1,5W LEDs. A colour temperature of 3000° K was chosen for the standard version to obtain a comfortable vision.

F02 Rampu

This is a complete family collection consisting of wall, ceiling, table and pendant lighting fixtures. Designed by Alberto Saggia and Valerio Sommella. The metal frame is in aluminium with sharp edges and is available white satin or matt black painted.The cylindrical diffuser is made of optical glass. The collection is electrified for LEDs 3×3W 10°, 3000° K.

F01 Light Panel

Collection of recessed lighting fixtures for indoor installation designed by the architects  Massimo and Marzia Sacconi. The peculiar shape of the PMMA diffuser was planned on the Fresnel’s lens concept: a thin lens modeled on a set of concentric annular sections which spreads sideways the light. The polished aluminium reflector functions as heatsink too. These lighting fixtures use the newest compact efficient with high performance LEDs: CREE MC-E 7,5W with a colour temperature of 3000° K.
